1968 AFL Season

I've noticed that Miami host 4 early season games on Saturday nights and non were televised. Why were these games played on Saturday nights? Because of the potential for oppressive heat in Miami in September/early October?

Re: How would you rank odd / unusual seasons?

I agree that the 1970 season is one of the most unusual with lots of mediocrity for some reason. I still say the Vikings win the SB that year if Joe Kapp had stuck around for 1 more season. Not that he had Hall of Fame talent but his leadership was sorely missed in 70 and 71 when the Vikes had great...

Westwood One radio broadcasts

I was driving home from covering a Monday night high school football game (yes, some newspapers still do that!) and tuned my radio to the MNF game. I found it to be maddening to listen too because the crowd noise was so loud I could barely understand what Kevin Harlan was saying most times and we al...

Re: Urban Meyer and other college-to-NFL coaches

Surprised no one has mentioned Bill Petersen's one season plus 5 games with Houston. 1-18 record. Is that the worst winning percentage ever for a coach who made it through at least one season?

Were You Pro Football Weekly or a Football News guy

I subscribed to both but had a more lengthy subscription to PFW until its initial demise in either the late 70s or early 80s. Both were solid publications. I know PFW made a comeback at some point and I had a online subscription for a couple years. Do you guys remember Football Digest? I believe tha...

Most Underrated Play By Play Announcer

For me, it's gotta be Charlie Jones. He seemed to always be the #2 or #3 PBP guy at NBC but he was really good at his craft!

Re: So, what's the purpose of this new USFL?

I will say this: The networks have treated it like a top notch league although I don't think any of the broadcast teams are 1s or 2s.

It was almost like the result of that game was predetermined!!! I don't have to look at that YouTube link as I remember too much of it!

Re: QB Trivia: 1st two QBs to have two 400-yard passing game

Something inside me says Tittle and Waterfield/Van Brocklin. But, thinking about gunslingers and 400 yd games I'd guess that Sonny Jurgenson is one and maybe Namath the other?
