Aught Oh
"00" I watched Jim Otto play football from the mid-sixties until he hung up his cleats in 1974. Probably because I lived in the Bay Area and got to see him frequently I considered him the best Center in football. I knew who Tingelhoff, Iman and Mansfield were. I was vaguely familiar with B...

Re: 2024 Obituaries
Jim Otto (Center, Oakland Raiders) passed today, Sunday May 19th. Truly one of the greats, he will always be remembered and honored by Bay Area football fans. https://www.nfl.com/news/jim-otto-legendary-raiders-center-and-pro-football-hall-of-famer-dies-at-86 https://www.pro-football-reference.com/p...

Re: Most impressive/interesting achievement
In a 1942 game vs. Washington the New York Giants didn't get a first down [at the time touchdowns didn't count as first downs] , only had one yard rushing, and only completed one pass but won 14-7. That one completion went for a Touchdown. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/194209270w...

Re: Looking At the Teams That Attempted to Threepeat
Of course, Vince's Packers did "Threepeat... it's just that one of their "Petes" was before the Super Bowl existed. I can still hear Pat Summerall saying "There will be no threepeate..." And I can still see Roger Craig fumbling that football near the end of the game. Arg. A ...

Re: What's the biggest football moment you witnessed in person?
The only game of "historical significance" that I've been at was the Monday night Jerry Rice scored three TDs vs the Raiders to break the over-all touchdown record. I'll remember that night till the day I die and a big thanks to Gene Anderson for letting me have his dad's season ticket sea...

Re: Best Teams To Miss The Playoffs
The playoffs in the 1960's weren't what they are today but probably one of the best teams from any era to miss the post season was the 1967 Baltimore Colts. There aren't a lot of one-loss teams that didn't make it to the playoffs, especially with a league MVP (Unitas) at QB. https://www.pro-football...

Re: COFFIN CORNER VOLUME 46 NUMBER 1
My favorite memories of "Electric Football" (and I too had a set in the mid 1960's till the mid '70's) was getting out my model paints and painting the nondescript players (mine came in yellow and white, if I recall correctly) to represent my favorite players and/or teams. I made teams of ...

Re: E.J. Holub
As an NFL guy and not too knowledgeable on the AFL, I was unfamiliar with E.J. Holub, but now I am shocked that I didn't know of him. He started two Super Bowls at two different positions, the only one to ever do that. 7 times on either first or second-team All-AFL, five-time All-Star, three-time A...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread
NFL fans still have to wonder why nobody offered enough to pry Young from SF but maybe plenty tried and either he said no, or SF management said no ... Montana himself wondered why Young didn't go and start somewhere else but I believe Steve was determined to succeed him just to justify/show up Bil...
