Re: Calling Bob Gill and/or Tod Maher re:Outsiders

Thanks for the reply. The great grandson has spent considerable time reading the minutes of league meetings and established that Dr. March proposed dividing the league into Eastern and Western Division as early as 1925. His experience with the Canton-Massillon rivalry, and his awareness of other spo...

Thanks Tod - I'd be curious if Bob has any notes on source materials for this episode. Mike

Calling Bob Gill and/or Tod Maher re:Outsiders

I've been working with the great-grandson of Dr. Harry March in researching Dr. March's life and contributions to pro football. He was reading “The League-How Five Rivals Created the NFL and Launched a Sports Empire,” by John Eisenberg and in passages about Tim Mara, Eisenberg covers the American Pr...

Re: Red Grange Trophy

Great information - I don't think I've ever read about a trophy for a regular season rivalry before.

Re: If the Hall opened today...

Having read some of the PFRA publications about the early years of professional football, I think the HOF should have some pre-NFL pioneers.

Re: Pro game passing the college game

I don't know that there was a true contest of the best college team and the best pro team but these all star games were considered a test of the quality of play in the pros vs. colleges at the time. Supposedly before the 1930 game between an undefeated plus alumni all-star Notre Dame team and the NY...

Re: Help with early NFL photo ID

That is a really good suggestion - I notice the chin looks different but maybe the Walker Cleaners photo was a bit touched up -

Help with early NFL photo ID

This photo belonged to Mike Michalske - but the family does not know the name of the player - he played for the Yankees in 1927 and 1928 and then for the Packers 1929 - 1937, so could be a teammate - any help with the ID?
