Re: The PFRA HoVG Selection Process

We also seek input from members when considering such matters. What is your opinion, racepug, as to what we should do in that scenario?

Re: Week #12, 1951, discussion

The race was even better than you state because the Lions were 7-3-1 going into the final game, not 6-4-1. Thus one possibility was that all four teams could have finished 7-4-1. It was one of the very best races in NFL history. With four teams involved until the very end, it was much like the 1967 ...

Re: Branch and Vermeil are the picks

You're doing it again. Quarterbacks don't win football games. Football teams win football games.

Re: Best-ever Rams team?

It was a bad snap from center and James was the holder. He picked up the ball and threw a pass into the end zone that was incomplete.

Re: Branch and Vermeil are the picks

I've gotta disagree with you, Brian, and agree with Bryan and John about Stabler. I think he was yet another poor HOF selection. Even while acknowledging that QB is the most important position, you're giving way too much credit for the success Stabler's teams had to him. It's football, not tennis or...

Re: Best-ever Rams team?

It wasn't just a matter of the Rams throwing INTs because every turnover is also a takeaway, so you have to give the Cleveland defense some credit. They didn't play great that game but they were the best defense of that era and they did shut the Rams out for the last 20 minutes or so of that game.

Re: Best-ever Rams team?

Like John said, home field advantage in postseason games in that era was predetermined. It started with the first official Championship Game in 1933 and lasted until 1975. The only exceptions were first place conference ties which were decided by coin flips even in cases like 1950 when one of the te...

Re: Branch and Vermeil are the picks

Branch was a poor choice. There are 15 seniors more deserving, maybe more. With Branch this year and Pearson last year, it's clear they haven't closed the door on the ten Centennial finalists who didn't make it in January 2020. Too bad they're picking the wrong ones from among those ten, plus it see...

Re: Rank all '46-thru-'49 NFL/AAFC League Champions

The Eagles absolutely win the conference in 1950 if there’s no merger and there’s a mountain of evidence that indicates it wouldn’t have been close. The seven AAFC players the Giants added – all of whom became starters -- made a massive difference and were overwhelmingly the primary reason they impr...
