Re: 1970 - 4 hypothetical

It would be interesting to find out if in 1974 the Steelers would have survived a gauntlet of Miami and Oakland on the road in consecutive weeks. My thought is if Pittsburgh manages to get by Miami in the first round, they will been worn down enough that the AFC Championship in Oakland would have pr...

Re: Meaningless end-of-year losses that tarnished legacies (

But that said, I honestly and open-mindedly feel that the '75 Steelers would have even more 'bite' had their 2nd-team garnered victory in that finale vs the Rams. Sure enough that'd be popularly perceived as the 'Rock' of their Dynasty instead of '78 (which I already feel anyway despite 'just' goin...

Re: SB matchups you're glad we didn't get

Surprised 83 Seahawks vs. 83 Redskins has not been mentioned.

Re: Most difficult postseason paths

1975 Steelers Divisional: Baltimore Colts (10-4) AFC Championship: Oakland Raiders (11-3) Super Bowl: Dallas Cowboys (10-4) That might not seem too intimidating on the surface in terms of won-loss records, but latter two went on to win the subsequent two Super Bowls (with Hall of Fame laden rosters)...

Surprised the 1983 Seattle Seahawks have not been mentioned or the 1984 Pittsburgh Steelers.

Re: Best Vikings team of the 1970s?

I've mentioned before that the 1972 team could have easily finished 11-3. They lost on a last-second field goal to the Cardinals, lost on late touchdowns to the Dolphins and 49ers and had a late game-winning touchdown against the Bears reversed by penalty. Had those been wins, they presumably would...

Re: Best Vikings team of the 1970s?

I always felt that the 75 Vikings were potentially a 'paper tiger'. Yes, the 12-2 record is impressive, but also consider that the Vikings regular season schedule mirrored that of the 1972 Dolphins: no playoff teams and only two teams with a winning records, Redskins and Bills (losing to the former ...

Re: Super Bowl 54 discussion

If I were the Defensive Coordinator for the Chiefs, I would do everything possible to stop the 49ers running game and trust my chances by putting the ball in the hands of Garoppolo.

Re: Favorite season in NFL history?

I find 1975 to stand out. You had all time great teams with hall of fame laden lineups at the top of their respective games, Steelers, Raiders and Cowboys would go on to win the next four Super Bowls. Vikings and Rams would go on to appear in (despite losing) two of those. In terms of specifics, 197...

Re: CCs/semifinal games you considered the "real" SB/title g

Let's take a closer look a the 70's: 1972 (AFCCG): The Steelers did not have all of their championship pieces in place in 1972 - the draft that brought Swann, Stallworth, Webster and Lambert was still two years away - but they gave the eventual undefeated Super Bowl champion Dolphins a good game. If...
