Re: Hewritt Dixon

Ah, very good. That explains it, then. Same question, another player: What about Otto Schnellbacher? After leading the league in interceptions in 1951 (for the second time in four seasons), he never played again. I always had the idea that he went to Canada, as a lot of players did at that time, bu...

Re: lateral passes attempted

Laterals behind the line scrimmage - i.e. "pitchouts" or backward passes - are not (and never have been) statistically counted as laterals. On plays from scrimmage (rushing attempts and pass receptions) they count only if they occur beyond the line of scrimmage. Why did they stop counting...

Re: lateral passes attempted

Back then laterals were a separate stat. Then they changed it to the way the count laterals today - they are part of originating play - rush, reception, kickoff return, etc. Laterals behind the line scrimmage - i.e. "pitchouts" or backward passes - are not (and never have been) statistical...

Re: Steve Jubyna

Sorry, to hear about his passing. I do know that Tod Maher has incorporated some of his findings in his Pro Football Archives. I had initially been part of the baseball research group, headed by Lee Allen - the historian of the Baseball Hall of Fame - that did work on the first edition of the Baseba...

Re: Sacks on Pro Football Reference

Please note that the sack lists are not comprehensive. I wish PFR would highlight the partial data a little better so these numbers don't get taken as "official" and someone starts complaining about Earl Faison's low sack numbers. Again though, I'm very happy that we have all of this now....

Re: Sacks on Pro Football Reference

It's great and everything, but I wish the numbers added up - i.e. 1981 Atlanta. 29 sacks but the individuals only add up to 28.5.

Re: Defensive extra point return

The newest type of scoring in the NFL is the defensive extra point return. It began in 2015 and with it 2 points are awarded to a defensive team which gains possession during an extra point try and returns the ball to the other end zone. I'm aware of four instances where this happened. Is this all ...

AAFC Substitution Rules

Does anyone know what substitution rules the AAAFC used?
I ask this because of players like Phil Martinovich who was apparently used only as a kicker - thus raising the question did the AAFC have unlimited substitution during it existence?
