Re: home dominance

The Packers have won 23 in a row at home (including one playoff game) against the Lions.

Until last year when they broke the string, the Lions had lost 21 in a row at Washington.

Re: Henry Jordan - 1967 Western Playoff vs LA Rams

Accounts of the era say four, while more recent sources such as ProFootballReference say he had 3.5, splitting one with Ron Kostelnik. I think the defense as a unit had five.

Re: '68 Packers expectations

I've seen footage of Grabowski writhing in pain inside the Ice Bowl sideline tent...I assume he tried to warm up before the game, slipped on the ice, and reinjured his knee. Does anyone have the story behind this? Did the Packers actually try to have Grabowski play in the Ice Bowl? He did hurt hims...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

Horn hurt his knee during pregame warmups before the Packers' 1970 Thanksgiving game at Dallas. That was almost beside the point, though, because he had already said he would play out his option in Green Bay that season. Lombardi (Horn has claimed) had wanted to bring him to Washington and that neve...

It's a pain, and it involves working out of DOS (yes, DOS....in 2014), but it can be done:

Re: 1970 realignment questions

I don't have many answers for Chris, but I agree that the era of the Capitol, Century, Central and Coastal divisions really was an oddity. The merger (and therefore realignment) had been agreed on and was just a few years from being implemented, correct? Why shuffle teams around and create newly nam...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

Was the Monday performance at Dallas one of Bart Starr's best ever? Cowboys come in 6-0 on the year (average margin of victory was 25 points in those first six wins), and get off to a 10-0 lead before Starr throws 4 TD passes in a 28-17 win. I'm guessing that game was a night game, but I assume it ...

Re: "Two" NFL Films questions

I think a lot of those features, which usually ran 4-7 minutes, were done originally for NFL Films' syndicated anthology programs in the early '80s, such as Pro! Magazine and later used on shows like Men Who Played the Game , which ran on ESPN later in the decade. A lot of them were also sewn into t...

Re: Reconciling the whole Browns/Ravens issue

The clearest precedent to follow in the Browns/Ravens case would have been when the Washington Senators moved to Minnesota and became the Twins and a "new" Senators franchise began play immediately afterward. The team legacy went to Minnesota along with the franchise and players, and the r...

Re: '68 Packers expectations

There wasn't any solid reason to expect that the Packers wouldn't at least be strong contenders in 1968. Everyone understood that the team was aging and the coaching transition would be a factor, but as mentioned, there didn't seem to be a strong challenger in the Central. The beating they took from...
