Re: Baltimore Colts-Cheated in 1967

W/O looking it up, I would think that is the best % WLT record ever compiled in the NFL (not counting 1920-1931 ) that came up with no plaque or trophy or playoff spot etc. in league history. Unless you consider a Quasi-co-championship of the 4 team Coastal Division to be "coming away with some...

Re: Monday Night Football

I also thought that Ray Scott was fantastic. NBC tried a "no-announcer" game years ago (1982?) & it was a flop. But I have often thought that a ONE-Announcer game would be a success, if they chose the right announcer . The networks all have too many talking heads (pre-game, 1/2-time, p...

Re: Steelers Released Jack Kemp

Jack Kemp QB'ed a lot of winning teams for sure, 5 division winners, 6 playoff teams and 2 AFL Titles but he was hardly a great QB himself. No Otto Graham or Tom Brady despite the winning records. Kemp played in an 8 team league in those years except for 1966 & 1967 when the Miami Dolphins joine...

Re: Bill Nelson went to Cleveland-Browns were 10-4

I enjoy your posts, but I have to point out that Bill Nelsen (<--- correct spelling) was the Browns starting QB in 1971 and the Browns went 9-5 and won the AFC Central Division. Nelsen had bad knees from football injuries and had informed the Browns after 1969 he wouldn't/couldn't play much longer b...

Re: More "changing the game"

I think Gary Collins ought to be in the PFHOF. His ratio of catches to TD receptions is amazing (to me anyway) 331 receptions and 70 TDs. Playoffs - 19 receptions and 5 TDs. That seems good enough to me, especially since he played in an era where you could be regarded as a great receiver with a lot ...

Re: AFL, NFL Super Bowl champs

Rote was up and down to be sure. But I feel what he did in his good seasons (Good for the Era that he played in, and good years for the bad team he played 7 years for, Green Bay of the early mid 50's) were enough to get him in. 2 Championships and an oblique claim to be the best tie-breaker playoff ...

Yes, but no Super Bowl.
Still, it was a distinction.

Re: Carroll Hardy (Denver Broncos)

"Would enjoy knowing if anybody had some real concrete info on how/why Denver missed out on all of that great talent or sent players elsewhere." I once read (possibly in the book "The $400,000 dollar Quarterback") that Bob Howsam, Denver's original owner had far less money than ...

Re: What are the worst shutouts in NFL history?

The worst shutout in NFL history took place on 12-10-1925. Chicago Cardinals 59 Milwaukee Badgers 0 in a game that featured a small Milwaukee roster that included 3 HS players and was quickly reassembled when Chris O'Brien wanted 2 extra games to try and make the Red Grange post-season tour. (The fo...
