Re: How about total NET-YARDAGE correlating with W/L records

Speaking of overall team stats, somebody here suggested an interesting system a few years ago. It was a team's total offensive yardage divided by possessions, so the result was called yards per possession or something similar. Of course it didn't take the team's defense into account, but it seemed ...

Re: BYE Week and Home Field Advantage

1969 Vikings. 12-1 going into Atlanta for their final game. Lost 10-3 to the Falcons on a field in which a monsoon had left a quagmire. Claude Humphrey scored the game's only TD on a fumble return. Minnesota had quite the extremes in weather conditions in their final four RS games. They ran into a b...

Re: Nicknames of Defensive Teams

During the 1984 season, with the old guard of the Orange Crush pretty much phased out, a Denver radio station held a contest to provide a new moniker for the Broncos' defense. The winning entry was "Sack, Tackle and Pop" - but it never caught on.

Re: Bits of NFL history you have learned from watching old g

The Dolphins had a trio of offseason tragedies during this period. Linebacker Larry Gordon died in '83, and the next season running back David Overstreet was killed, like Chambers in an auto accident. I remember the Dolphins wearing a black 20 on their helmets during the '84 season.

The most damaging play was when the Rams had a first and goal at the Minnesota one.  Viking linebacker Wally Hilgenberg intercepted a pass from James Harris in the end zone leaving the Rams without a score. Actually, the Rams had advanced to the one, but committed a procedure penalty on first dow...

Re: 2022 NFL Predictions

Geno Smith will win Comeback Player of the Year. great prediction---after just one game----well done you are going to be right I was ridiculed on this and other forums for this pick, but it came to pass. So happy for and proud of Geno. Been a fan for a long time, and he's a class act all the way.
