1972 Dolphins

Now that this season's last undefeated team has lost its first game, the inevitable talk about the 1972 Dolphins' undefeated season has surfaced today, and it was already in the discussion this year because of the 50th anniversary. I'd be interested in hearing the group's thoughts about where that t...

Re: Super Bowl 0 - What if?

I'm surprised no one has speculated about how a mythical 1963 Super Bowl between the Bears and Chargers might have turned out. To me it's the most interesting match-up of all given the contrasts of playing styles and histories.

Re: 1982 NFL Tournament rounds 1 & 2

No discussion of the 1982 playoffs is complete without mentioning John Riggins. Before the playoffs started, Riggins went to Joe Gibbs and said he wanted the ball, and when Gibbs accommodated his request, he ran for 610 yards on 136 carries in four playoff games to lead the Redskins to their first S...

Re: The 25 best teams to miss the playoffs 1978 to 2019

The 1979 Washington Redskins were minutes away from clinching a playoff berth in their final game of the season against the Dallas Cowboys, but Roger Staubach engineered one of his great comebacks and the Redskins lost 35-34 to finish 10-6. They were tied with the Bears for the final playoff spot, b...

Re: The Death of NFL Dynasties

Another reason for the demise of the 49ers dynasty was that Bill Walsh wanted them to draft Jake Plummer in 1997, but the total doofus Vinny Cerrato was running the Niners' draft, and he opted for Jim Druckenmiller instead. It's no accident Cerrato is out of football and Walsh is in the Hall of Fame.

Re: Coffin Corner Volume 43 Number 6

I submitted an article and pictures about the Playoff Bowl to Coffin Corner several months ago, but it has yet to see the light of day in the two editions that have come out since I submitted it. Maybe this display of interest in the game will help get it into the next edition.

Tom Goode, 1970/71 Baltimore Colts. Long snapper for the game-winning field goal in the Colts' 16-13 win over the Cowboys in Super Bowl V. It was the last play in the final game of Goode's nine-year career that also included stints with the Oilers and Dolphins.

Re: 2022 Obituaries

Chet Hanulak, who played on the Browns in 1954 and 1957 and was the leading rusher on Maryland's 1953 national championship team, died last year. He scored a touchdown in the Browns' 56-10 win over the Lions in the 1954 championship, and his final game as a pro was when the Lions clobbered the Brown...

Ollie Matson had a stellar 14-year career and only played on two teams with winning records, the 1956 Chicago Cardinals and the 1966 Eagles.
