Re: John Stallorth/Lynn Swann VS Jerry Rice/John Taylor

Prescient thread however, since Pearson and Branch have made the HOF and Sharpe will soon. Looking back at Swann's career, it's amazing how well he played in big games, for division, wild card, conference or SB, he delivered. I feel had he stayed healthy his last three seasons, the Steelers would ha...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

I don't agree about the 73 Dolphins ... the expectations of defending a world championship is difficult for any team, especially since it was only done thrice since the end of the 1959 season when Baltimore and Green Bay did it--excluding the AFL*-- The Dolphins hammered the Bengals, Raiders and Vik...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

Good question Bryan ... The Raiders beat the Steelers in Pitts during the 77' regular season but it might have been different in the championship game. I think a close win for Oakland--especially if the Tooz was motivated and not hungover--and feel either the Raiders or Steelers might have beaten th...

Re: 1985 Seattle Seahawks

Down year for their offensive line, giving up alot of sacks and not running that well other than Warner. Good passing game but a very tough division as well.

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

Had Gabriel joined the Raiders in 1966, Art Powell probably would have finished his career there--and made the HOF--while Biletnikoff would have been a star much quicker, since he never had a rapport with Flores. With Powell there, would the Raiders have still signed Warren Wells? *I goofed, Davis p...

Re: NFL "what-if" scenarios thread

RIP Roman Gabriel ... What if Al Davis and the Raiders had signed Gabriel in 1966? Since the NFL was strongly opposed to this happening, as well as possibly losing other players like Brodie to Houston, they finally agreed to a merger, where Lamar Hunt got what he finally wanted in 1959, a seat at th...

Re: Top, and Worst, Ten teams of the 14-game era, '61-thru-'77?

The Dolphins won back-to-back championships in 1973, only the 75 Steelers were better. The 62 Packers were third for me ...

It's a toss-up on the 66 Giants and 76 Bucs ... a goose egg is the worst.

Re: Top, and Worst, Ten teams of the 14-game era, '61-thru-'77?

Great finish for the 76' Steelers before Oakland kicked their ass ... not Top 7. The Cowboys finish in 1971 deserves Top 10

Re: 1974 Dallas Cowboys

Tough year for them on both sides of the ball. Like John said, aging defense with the young depth taking time to adjust. The pass rush wasn't dominant once Andrie retired. Staubach had a rare, bad season, but its hard to win games when the wide receivers collectively only score eight TDs in a deadba...

Re: E.J. Holub

Holub was an outstanding linebacker on their first championship team in Dallas. Due to knee injuries and Stram wanting his toughness on offense, he switched over to center but competed against other outstanding centers for accolades. One of the toughest players in professional history undergoing at ...
