Re: Was 1977 the most referee-affected season ever?
The Oilers recovered a fumbled kickoff in the end zone and it should have been a game-winning touchdown but it was incorrectly ruled a non-fumble. I think Rozelle even admitted the officiating error. The Oilers lost in overtime.... That happened in October....then the Oilers beat Cincinnati late in ...

Christian Okoye
Walt Garrison played in the NFC Championship with a broken collarbone....and he was a rodeo star....that's gotta count for something....

Re: Oilers' secondary of the '60s
Miller Farr was great....led the AFL interceptions one year....had several pick 6s....he grew up in Beaumont, Texas and went to Hebert High School -- same high school as Warren Wells, Jerry LeVias and Miller's brother Mel...Hebert's rival was Charlton Pollard, where Bubba Smith's dad coached...so yo...

Re: Was 1977 the most referee-affected season ever?
Wasnt 1998 another bad year for officials calls, that decided games ? I remember a game where the officials ruled Testaverde of the Jets scoring a TD when he was short of the goalline. I thought Phil Luckett called this game but wasnt sure ? If I remember right, that was the year of the famous Jerr...

Re: Was 1977 the most referee-affected season ever?
I actually recently researched the 77 season and how it affected officiating for a chapter of Red, White, and Columbia Blue, which is about the 79 Oilers. Yes, the side judge was added in 78 as a result of 77. Good memory on the Oilers/Bengals play! That cost the Oilers the game and possibly a spot ...

Re: Favorite NFL uniforms
Orange Crush Broncos probably my favorite....Houston Oilers in the late 70s were great uniforms....also the old Dolphins uniforms were awesome.... When I was a kid the late 70s/early 80s Chargers had the blue helmets and I'd see pictures of Lance Alworth with the white helmets. I always thought the ...

Re: Why Claude Watts never played in the NFL, AFL or CFL?
The Chiefs were pretty stacked at RB with Abner Hayes, Curtis McClinton, and Jack Spikes so that might explain his early exit from KC.

Re: Obscure things remembered about somewhat obscure players
I remember Phillip Epps hopping down the sidelines for several yards for the Packers against the Lions. They used the footage in the Dire Straits Walk of Life video.

Re: If you could enshrine one player into the Hall of Fame..
So many. But here are a few that would be top priority for me. Lionel Taylor -- We all know that he was first to 100 catches in a season but not so many know he had a big impact on the careers of two HOF receivers (Swann and Stallworth), was a key part of that 70s Steelers coaching staff AND was off...
