Re: HOVG?? No, its the HOI!!!

Interesting idea. I'll add some guys too, apologies for being QB heavy. Spec Sanders - obviously, everything about his career was interesting Tex Hamer - likely first ever 1000 yard rusher Charlie Mathys - 1st "wide receiver"? Charley Rogers - only player to lead NFL in rushing and receiv...

Re: Lionel Taylor

Taylor is a player who not only needs to be in the HOVG, I wouldn't hate him making the HOF. Powell and Hennigan should get in first, though.

Jim Nance is another one I'd add to Brian's list, and I think he isn't in the HOVG either.

Re: When Did the NFL Change?

I grew up in the 2000s and still consider that to be when the NFL came closest to an ideal equilibrium, barring a few too many rushing TDs. The enormous passing seasons happened, but were rare enough that they actually felt special and important. But most years, Peyton led the league with passing nu...

1932

So I've come across a problem in some of the research I'm doing that I couldn't have foreseen. PFR considers 1932 to be the first officially statted NFL season, whereas David Neft considers it the last unofficial season, and I have no idea who's right. Normally, I would just assume Neft accidentally...

Re: Damon Allen vs. Marcus Allen

Before 1984, in the Super Bowl Era, Vince Evans (32 starts, 1977-1983) and James Harris (41 starts, 1969-1979) were the only black NFL quarterbacks who had spent much time under center

Re: Rookie QBs: what's the problem?

Update on the situation: Lawrence, Wilson, Fields, and Mills remain some of the worst starting QBs in the league stretching across the last several years, while Lance has yet to get an extended look, and Jones is locked in a dead heat with Chase for OROY with the Pats looking like a top 3 team in th...

Re: 2022 HoF Semi-Finalists

But are you really going to say players have to carry teams on their back to be PFHOF worthy? I'm saying that if it were up to me Shaun Alexander would never get in. His drop-off in production was quite acute once Steven Hutchinson left and within just a couple of years of winning the league M.V.P....

Re: Damon Allen vs. Marcus Allen

I'm guessing there was still some institutionalized bias against the kind of running QB that Allen was in the 1990s, and he wouldn't have been hailed as any kind of savior if he took an NFL offer, just another guy who wasn't guaranteed anything. I'd be willing to bet more of his NFL offers than not ...

Re: My HOVG Watch List!

@Zero26, good take on Cloyce Box. What do you think of Elbie Nickel? I'd like his numbers for a tight end, but I don't think we're making that distinction for this era. Someone also mentioned Alyn Beals, who's a weird "all he does is catch touchdowns" case, and clearly highly dependent on...

Re: Urban Meyer finished after 13 games

Benching JRob lit the fire, kicking the kicker was the last straw. Bye Felicia. Definitely on the level of Petrino among the worst coaching hires ever; many saw it coming, but I thought Urban would be too much of a professional to let it be a complete disaster. Turns out he conducted himself far fro...
