Re: 1945 Championship
There used to be a B/W video of the play on YouTube but it's apparently taken down. Here's a link to a 17-minute video of the game which might have it - I haven't watched it yet. Yes, the pass that hits the post is there, and it's shown twice -- actually three times, but the third is a black-and-wh...

Re: 1945 Championship
You dog. I am SO gullible... No wonder I'd never heard that before... *Hangs head in shame* Now I'm trashing your trivia book because I don't know if I can trust the answers. Well, there might be a wrong answer in there somewhere, but if so, it's not intentional. I guess I needed to use one of thos...

Re: 1945 Championship
True, but on the plus side it did have the extra point that hit the crossbar and bounced over, which I'd never seen.Throwin_Samoan wrote: ↑Tue Jan 16, 2024 9:27 pm FWIW, some highlights exist (though, sadly, not of the fateful play that provided the eventual winning margin.)

Re: 1945 Championship
(And considering the game was won by a one point margin you have to consider that that decision may've cost Washington the Championship.) On top of that, a day before the game the Rams suggested moving the goal posts back to the end line. But the Redskins said it would be too much trouble, and besi...

Re: Super Wild Card Weekend
Similar to the collapse of the 1986 Jets, though the Eagles were a defending conference champion Off the top of my head, I'd say the best comparison here is with the 1981 Eagles, as was recently mentioned on this forum (by 74_75_78..., I believe). That team was also coming off a Super Bowl loss; th...

Re: The five "best" books about pro football history
I would argue that Pigskin: The Early Years of Pro Football by Robert W. Peterson might be a good replacement for Christl's team-specific Packers book. Also, I have run into multiple errors related to the Minneapolis Marines and the Rock Island Independents in a couple of chapters in The Sunday Gam...

Neutral? Hah!
During the Chiefs' game the other day, the announcers brought up something we've probably all seen by now: that Mahomes has never played a road game in the playoffs. They did admit that his three Super Bowl appearances were not HOME games; but since they were played at neutral sites, they still were...

Re: Jimmy Graham, 6 catches 4 TDs this year
Howzabout Mike Vrabel? Sure, he was a LB, but look at his stats: Regular Season----10 receptions, 10 TDs Playoffs------------ 2 receptions, 2 TDs The guy had a dozen catches and each and every one of them was for six points . Good one! Here's another good one, this time in a minor league -- but a v...

Re: The N.F.L. now embracing Xmas. . .
I remember one case specifically: In 1977 Christmas came on a Sunday, and the first round of playoffs took place that weekend. Two games were played on Saturday, the 24th, and two more on Monday, the 26th. None on the 25th.
