Re: The Stupidity Of Thursday Night Football
The end goal, probably, is an 18-game schedule with two bye weeks and a game on every night of the week. I'm sure a scheduling wizard could see to it that no team has fewer than six days' rest between games. It would destroy the rhythm of a football season that we've known for a century, but big de...

Re: John Madden
He was this big burly guy who came across as goofy and harmless...a bit of an oddball but in an endearing way. He did go over the top and play up that Madden cartoon character personality much like Terry Bradshaw did when going from CBS to FOX. He always seemed to have funny and sometimes bizarre ra...

Re: random Overtime/Kicker question
Neil O'Donoghue did it in that very year, 1983, in a Monday Night Football game, Cardinals vs. Giants. Thanks. That's pretty incredible, although not surprising that O'Donoghue is the guy who 'achieved' it. I think if someone is keeping track of most game-winning FGs, missed, career.....then O'Dono...

Re: "New" Hail Mary footage
There was also a liquor bottle thrown from the stands that knocked out an official once Minnesota got the ball back. Not sure if that guy was ever identified eitherRRMarshall wrote: ↑Thu Nov 09, 2023 6:01 pm I still want to know who threw the orange on the field after the play. Everyone watching on TV thought it was a penalty flag!

Re: 1985 49ers
What went wrong for SF in 1985? Again when you go from #1 scoring defense to #2 that shouldn’t mean a 5 win dropoff! They had some very uncharacteristic early season losses. Opening week to Minnesota where they turned it over like 7 or 8 times. A 3 point loss to a bad Saints team and a 2 point loss...

Re: Jets-VS-Giants history
There was a time in the 80s that the "other" #56 in NY (Lance Mehl) was playing at a Pro Bowl level, and it was showcased in ESPN. IIRC in 1988 they met in the last game of the season, and the Jets knocked out the Giants out of the playoffs. It will be interesting to list players who have...

Re: Jimmy G, most fragile QB ever?
One guy I remember who was always always hurt seemingly was Chris Chandler . He was pretty good when he could get on the field. Never had a single season where he made more than 14 regular season starts "Christal Chandelier" - ha. Yep I remember that nickname becoming a thing back i...
