Chuck Knox's early-'90s Rams

Post by 74_75_78_79_ »

Unlike each of Knox's three other HC tenures, his fourth and final run (second time with Rams) deemed unsuccessful. They went 6-10, 5-11, and then 4-12 from '92 through '94. In each season, however, there were moments of hope.

First example (which inspired this thread in the first place) is the '92 upset at Dallas that JWL just mentioned in the ongoing 'Cowboys/Rams' thread.

The following year, #36's breakout rookie season, they beat the Steelers, 20-0, and then two weeks later beat Oilers at Houston to start 2-2. Of course Cowher's teams were no stranger to starting slow and that especially went for the Oilers that very year who started 1-4 before running table rest of regular season.

In '94, they soundly shutout Chiefs, 16-0, at Arrowhead albeit Joe (3 INTs) having the flu; Rams turnover-free that game along with the Bus putting up 132 yds (they had possession 34+minutes). Three weeks later they beat Dan Reeves' 9-7-to-be Giants, but it was in midst of that 7-game-losing streak. Two games later they beat Denver to get to a respectable 4-5 mark, and this was in midst of Broncos' 7-2 run. However, Rams wouldn't win another game the rest of the season thus ushering-in the short-lived Rich Brooks regime that went no better despite the 5-1 mirage of a start in '95/the now-under-utilized Bettis escaping to the 'Burgh the following off-season.
