Yes folks, the HOVG has become obsolete. It has gone the way of the dinosaur and the flying wedge. Charlie Mathys - 1st "wide receiver"?
Charley Rogers - only player to lead NFL in rushing and receiving in a season (1927)
Billy Hillenbrand - had an amazing rushing/receiving season, then just disappeared?
Benny Boynton - I could name a bunch of early years guys like this who had all the talent, but the game was just too small for them.
Walter "Sneeze" Achiu - first Asian NFL player
Davey O'Brien - NFL Draft's first megabust? Infamous backwards runner. You said they had to be interesting, but you never specified good...
Andy Farkas - if you're looking for a Baugh weapon, he's better than Wayne Millner
Harry Newman - played at MVP caliber as a rookie, then imploded spectacularly and found himself unemployed. Doubt we ever see this career arc again.
Whizzer White - equally interesting for becoming a SCOTUS justice, and for continuing to be allowed to throw the ball
Johnny Lujack - very good at many different skills and positions, but seemed to manifest those skills all at different times
Ben Agajanian - first specialist kicker, managed to stick around 20 years despite being the only one for most of that time
Tom Dempsey - longest kick record despite disability

Jimmy Hines - I am speed, paperhands version
Morris Stroud - giant TE, got goaltending FGs banned
Bobby Douglass - pretty much a 1930s tailback
Doug Williams - overcame biases of the era to win a SB... on the Redskins of all teams
Lester Hayes - got stickum banned by putting it all over his jersey

John McKay - inner-circle fascinating character, Casey Stengel of the NFL. Three or four plane crashes and we might be in the playoffs.
Jerry Glanville - another all-around character, gets extra for the high strangeness that was the rise and fall of Grits Blitz. Also drove race cars! And is currently coaching in the Spring League!
Dennis Green - He is... who we thought he was.
Matt Millen - recently proven to be unable to draft better than a randomizer with no set parameters whatsoever

Sproles was so good, he made two HOF type backs expendable, Tomlinson from the Chargers and Bush from the Saints, though Bush never developed into a HOF back. Bush had the talent but didnt like to run inside and never seemed to get his career going after leaving the Saints.

With his overall, all purpose ability, I hope Sproles makes the HOF but once Hester gets voted in, that might be the end of any other great returners getting in, though we will see.

Will look up Charlie Mathys ... always thought Don Hutson was the first end to utilize pass patterns, or wide field targeting.

Johnny Lujack had great talent but couldnt sustain it. Kept Luckman on the bench and allowed Layne to get traded, a decision that would haunt George Halas ...
