Nelson Sets Record

Post by rhickok1109 »

Jordy Nelson's 60-yard TD reception Monday night was his seventh TD catch of 40+ yards this season, an NFL record.

Who's record did he break? My guess would be Don Hutson. If not, he would be high on that list.
Maybe Clayton or Duper.

I think that it is a tie of a franchise record, not an NFL record. Packers Record: Billy Howton (1952).

The info comes from http://www.packersnews.com/story/sports ... /20223627/, which is run by the Green Bay Press-Gazette, not the Packer organization. The story doesn't say anything about previous record-holders.

They mentioned this "record" on MNF. Three or four others had six TD receptions of over 40 yards including Calvin Johnson in 2013, Bob Hayes in 1965 and Jerry Rice in 1986. There may have been one more.

.....elroy hirsch had 10 receptions for touchdowns of more than 40 yards in 1951, and 6 of those were for more than 60.

Sorry for the false alarm! Without acknowledging the error, the website has now corrected the story to say he tied the
franchise record.

Lance Alworth had eight TD receptions over 40 yards in 1965.

....ryan wood gets his facts from gil brandt? if that is true, ryan wood best re-think his sources? 8 times from 1948 through 1958 a receiver had at least 6 touchdown receptions of 40 yards or more in a season. first is almost never spoken of Mal Kutner of cardinals, the other five are Howton, Taylor in '52, Hill in '56, and Shofner in '58, with of course Hirsch the undisputed leader in '51. Howton and Taylor both had td receptions of more than 40 yards in the same game in '52. The list is going to grow in the sixties as the passing game in two leagues advances.
