Why Would Any Player Wanna Be 00?

It was an episode of Greatest Sports Legends about Vince Lombardi.

Showing a clip from Superbowl II and one of the Raiders had that number.

That would likely be Jim Otto who wore 00 during his career, likely reflecting the first and last letters of his last name.

If memory serves, Obert Logan used to wear the number 0.

Steve Bagarus and Ken Burrough also wore 00. Burrough and Otto were likely never on the same field at the same time.

Bagarus played against Johnny Clement on the same field. Clement wore #0.

There have been at least 28 NBA players who wore 00 at one time in their careers.
The most famous probably was Robert Parish who was also, most likely, the first to do so.
Only one of them, Olumide Oyedeji, had OO as initials.

Johnny Olszewski, fresh out of the University of California, was selected by the Chicago Cardinals in the 1953 draft.
He was quoted as saying "When I was drafted by the Cardinals in the first round, I had to take a pay cut".
Johnny "O" was traded to the Redskins in 1958 where he continued his tradition of wearing the number zero.

(However, that same quote has been credited to the "King," "Hurryin' Hugh.")

When a player made a good play, he didn't jump up and down.
Those kinds of plays were expected."

He definitely took a pay cut from college to his rookie year salary. At least if you total up the worth of the extra benefits at UW. Huskies 'won' that recruiting battle by offering the best package.

Of course, to him, that was an "O" for Olszewski, not a "0".

Yeah, but they were not likely on the field at the same time. This is as opposed to Bagarus (00) and Clement (0) who made contact with one another during game action.
