Small doesn't necessarily mean terrible. Both Widener and Milton performed respectably at their own level of competition during Johnson's and Krieg's tenure there.

Fred Smerlas played for the 0-11 Boston College Eagles in 1978 then was drafted in 1979 with the 32nd overall pick by the Buffalo Bills.
