High-Scoring Quarters

I found a few examples of NFL teams scoring six times in one quarter: Packers in 1945, Rams in 1950 and Rams again in 1980. Has any team scored seven or more times in one quarter? (Any mix of touchdowns, field goals and safeties).

Good work, Fitzclarence.

My first thoughts went to the 1980 Bears, who scored 61 points vs the Packers. Then the 1940 NFL Championship Game. Neither time did the Bears put up that many scores in a quarter. Then I thought maybe the Oilers in 71 in the game that Ken Houston had two pick 6s in the same quarter, but the Oilers only scored 4 times that quarter. Never really thought about this before -- great qurestion.

The 1967 Pack came close with five touchdowns in the first quarter during their 55-7 slaughter of the Browns--including two kickoff returns by Travis Williams.

The 1983 Pack scored 35 in the second quarter of their 55-14 rout of the Bucs. Ironically, in the MNF rematch a few months later, the Pack won 12-9.

The 1964 Bills started their championship season strong by scoring 31 points in the first quarter against the Chiefs, winning 34-17.

The 1948 Cardinals scored five touchdowns in the third quarter against the Boston Yanks, enroute to a 49-27 win.

The 1960 Raiders scored 31 in the fourth quarter of their 48-10 win over the Broncos, and the 63 Raiders did it in their 41-27 win over the Chargers.

The 2000 Jets came back on MNF to score 30 points (one missed XP) and beat the Dolphins in OT 40-37.

The 2007 Lions scored five touchdowns (34 points) in the fourth quarter to beat the Bears, 37-27.

Don't forget about the Redskins 35 point second quarter in SB XXII.

That was the highest-scoring quarter in NFL postseason history.

Also one of my favorite all-memories of a Super Bowl.

Browns came close in the WC playoff last year against the Steelers, with 28 in the first.

Redskins and Giants scored 37 points in the 4th Qrt of a 72-41 blowout of the Giants in 1966.
Imagine watching that game on television or at DC Stadium (RFK)
