When Hou scored a TD in the 3rd Qrt to go up 35-3, the Bills scored 28 points to end the quarter in the 92/93 playoff game. I could not believe what I was seeing that day. Nickel back Steven Jackson for the Oilers, kept looking back at QB Frank Reich and was repeatedly burned for TDs ...

A classic - poor Jets. Any instances of one team scoring 7+ times in a quarter?

The 1967 Pack came close with five touchdowns in the first quarter during their 55-7 slaughter of the Browns--including two kickoff returns by Travis Williams.

The 1983 Pack scored 35 in the second quarter of their 55-14 rout of the Bucs. Ironically, in the MNF rematch a few months later, the Pack won 12-9.

The 1964 Bills started their championship season strong by scoring 31 points in the first quarter against the Chiefs, winning 34-17.

The 1948 Cardinals scored five touchdowns in the third quarter against the Boston Yanks, enroute to a 49-27 win.

The 1960 Raiders scored 31 in the fourth quarter of their 48-10 win over the Broncos, and the 63 Raiders did it in their 41-27 win over the Chargers.

The 2000 Jets came back on MNF to score 30 points (one missed XP) and beat the Dolphins in OT 40-37.

The 2007 Lions scored five touchdowns (34 points) in the fourth quarter to beat the Bears, 37-27.
Great examples of high-scoring quarters! I remember that Jets comeback in 2000.

In all but a few cases, the highest-scoring games usually have a steady stream of scoring in each quarter, rather than one monster period.

I found one ... The Rams and Lions scored seven times in the 3rd Qrt of a 1950 Rams win, 65-24 ... Wikipedia believes the 49 points was the most ever for a quarter ?

For a dramatic difference in scoring between two games matching the same teams, I doubt that anything beats the Bears and Redskins in 1940. Just a week or two before losing 73-0, the Redskins had beaten the Bears 7-3.

I think a 'dramatic difference' for a team is the 1977 Bills defense. One week during that season they played the expansion Seahawks and gave up 56 points, which is even more remarkable considering how league-wide scoring was at its nadir that year. The next week the Bills faced perhaps the most talented team in the NFL, the Patriots, and the Bills defense gave up only 7 points (Raymond Clayborn had a 97-yard kick return TD as well). Strange.
