Re: 2025 QB Carousel

If Sanders goes to Pitts, do they still sign Rodgers? Would he mentor him? Could they trade for Cousins if Atlanta helps with salary?

Re: Two San Fran what-ifs (’88/’89, and early-’90s)

Thanks Steelers fan ... A Bengals or Bills matchup with Chicago or Minn would be interesting. Seeing Singletary butt heads with Woods would be fun but I feel James Brooks would have been more a factor against the Bears. With Boomer's arm being bad, could the running game and defense gotten it done a...

Re: Two San Fran what-ifs (’88/’89, and early-’90s)

I will agree, had the 49ers not made the playoffs in 1988, Walsh might have been fired, and not co-written two influential football books. Then again, maybe he still would have, questioning his possible handling of the "quarterback controversy" starting with his benching of Joe Montana dur...

Re: Joe Gibbs' 3 Super Bowls- a great achievment or an asterisk?

Winning any SB is a big achievement especially with different QBs but Gibbs had offensive lines that made the difference. They ran just enough to draw a defense in, then went deep. Their defenses could be thrown on, but with underrated Dave Butz plugging the run, they could unleash a pass rush. The ...

Re: A Vikings/Broncos Super Bowl XXII

The NFC also had superior coaching. With a two week window for the SB, they could break down the AFC offenses, though the Broncos made their own mistakes, which cost the Bills as well. Had Esiason not had a bad arm, he might have done more in his SB appearance. Those NFC defenses were tough to beat.

Re: Quarterbacks of the 1988 NFL Draft

It probably had to do with mobility. Back then, college QBs were still throwers rather than mobile athletes like Randall Cunningham. NFL pass rushers could tee off, without getting flagged contantly--the violent games under Pete Rozelle rather than Roger Goodell--and if a college QB about to get dra...

Re: AFC teams that just missed the playoffs in 1989

At least Anderson had a winning starting record but once the Bengals unraveled during the 1991 season after fallout from the rape scandal in Seattle in 1990, Esiason's career was going backward, where he tried to win as a starter in NY but had the Bills and Dolphins down his throat. The team got wor...

Re: Two San Fran what-ifs (’88/’89, and early-’90s)

That Giants game is an example of why I feel Young would have been different leading the team in the playoffs compared to Montana. Young struggled and found out quickly that he needed more experience rather than just pure athleticism to help beat the Giants. As soon as Joe enters the game, the team ...
