Re: Something dumb that you remember about watching the NFL

Like a former Raider coach once said "when is a fumble not a fumble?" ... Get over it Ralph, the officials were wrong!

Re: 1971 NFL season discussion

The 1971 Lions had their third straight winning season reaching four straight in Joe Schmidt's last season in 1972. The team has only had ONE three-straight winning seasons streak, since ...

Why was he not coaching in 1973?

Re: Aught Oh

Ebbets.com has a great throwback jersey of Jim Otto from the Raiders 1964 season but it's pricey. Still would be cool to have with plain white jersey and silver 00 with black outlining.

"Wasnt that Otto"? -- line from the best film comedy of the 1980s ... Repo Man !!

The Tuck Rule game ... damn the ruling and interpretation of the "incomplete pass" ... Brady clearly brought the ball down from a passing motion making him a RUNNER who fumbled the ball into the Raiders hands. No way that was an intended pass.

Re: 1984 49ers = Overrated

Losing Thomas to trade wouldn't have helped the Bills or Jim Kelly. Davis could run but wasn't the valuable receiver that Thomas was. The passing attack would have suffered without Thomas, who had his best ever running game against KC to put Buffalo in its 4th straight SB. Had Thomas been traded, th...

Re: Looking At the Teams That Attempted to Threepeat

The Chargers did beat the Steelers in 1980--they had beaten them 35-7 the year before-- before Pittsburgh was eliminated from the playoff race due to Oilers and Patriot wins, and SD needed the game to win the division. Yes, the defense had a tough season but Bradshaw still led the team to a winning ...

The Oilers changing their name to the Titans. I get Bud Adams trying to create a new image and identity for the fans in Nashville and TN, but ... a) You don't get rid of a name with a history, including the first two AFL champions and b) You damn sure don't adapt another AFL team name from a team th...

Re: SB Champions That Should Have Repeated

Of course the Colts had their shot at repeating in 1971 but couldn't match the big plays of the Dolphins in that championship game. With Hinton and Bulaich hurt in 1972, the wheels came off their offense and Unitas was coming to the end. Letting go of Roy Jefferson might have been a mistake.

Re: SB Champions That Should Have Repeated

Good points ... imagine though if KC had a backup like Lamonica with Buffalo or Parilli with the Jets? A passer to challenge defenses and help Dawson out. Livingston didn't exactly worry defenses when he came in. Yeah, Stallworth had that long TD on a screen and the Cowboys still couldn't keep Swann...

Re: SB Champions That Should Have Repeated

Good perspective on that 2008 Giants squad. They had their chance but the Eagles played inspired before flopping against the Cardinals in that championship game. After beating NY, I can understand Leonard being so disappointed there wasnt an eventual Philly- Pittsburgh SB. I thought about including ...
