In 1920, the Virginia, Minnesota, city council tried to secure insurance for the city semi-pro football team, but they couldn't find any company that would insure the players. Are there any early examples where a team did secure insurance for the players?
I do know that the Minneapolis Marines, for example, did secure insurance against game cancellations due to weather, but that's a different kind of insurance.

The first player I know of that was insured was Davey O'Brien by Bert Bell through Lloyd's of London. That is per Upton Bell, Bert Bell's son. There may have been somebody before that, but Upton has always insisted that was a first.
