he Steelers came into Cleveland to get revenge over the Browns in a 30 to 28 loss at Forbes Fields two weeks earlier. The Steelers were 2-5 vs 5-2 for the Browns. As might be expected, Jimmy Brown was Cleveland’s big weapon carrying 18 times for 110 yards and catching four passes for 38 yards. Brown however, carried the entire team, which for today at least simply was not enough.
Midway in the third quarter the Browns led 10 to 0 but did very little thereafter. The Steelers had 356 total yards to 252 for Cleveland.
Rudy Bukich complied 12 of 18 passes for 203 yards and a touchdown. John Henry Johnson hit the line 22 times for 105 yards. The Steelers used their star receiver Buddy Dial mainly as a decoy. Instead the new acquired Bob Schnelker caught seven passes for 160 and the go ahead touchdown in the fourth quarter. The Steelers had some great kickoff returns to set up scores. Johnny Sample had 59 yards in one kickoff return and Dick Haley returned three kicks for 90 yards. The Steeler defensive line sacked Milt Plum for 38 yards in losses.
