People are calling for the firing of Nick Sirianni which is a marked difference from Andy Reid and even Doug Pederson. Consider the differences.
1) Aside from 1999, it took Andy Reid four years to get to the Super Bowl vs just two years for Sirianni.
2) In the four years before the Super Bowl, the Eagles won 11 games twice, 12 games twice, and 13 games in the 2004 season. After 2004, the most the Eagles won 11 games once. In that season, the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Eagles three times, twice by a wide margin.
3) In the year following the Super Bowl, the Eagles were 4-2 after six weeks but 2-8 thereafter. The final record was 6-10. Last year the Eagles were 10-1 but lost six of their last seven games. Final record was 11-7. In the playoff game, Philadelphia lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 32 to 9. Even so, the Eagles had a winning record compared to the vertical drop in 2005. Only two of the 10 losses were close.
4) In the four years before the Super Bowl, there really was only one loss that the Eagles should have won. It was in 2001 in the 21 to 20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals at Veterans Stadium. Philadelphia was at the Cardinal eight yard line, with 50 seconds left to play, third down and one, and leading 17 to 14. The Arizona defense stopped Duce Staley in his tracks and the Eagles kicked a field goal and score was 20 to 14. Jake Plummer threw a 36 yard touchdown pass to MarTay Jenkins in the waning seconds. The Eagles lost 21 to 20. One yard prevented a victory.
5) As stated the most the Eagles won after 2004 was 11. There were multiple gains each year and it often seemed there was a lacked of focus early in the season.
2006-The Eagles were 5-6, won five in a row, and finished 10-6. There were three games that Eagles lost but should have won. A 13-3 record would have gotten them a BYE week and the home field advantage. The Eagles at home defeated the Giants with a field goal on the last play 23 to 20 in the Wild Card game. At New Orleans the Saints gashed them rushing for 235 yards. Final Saints 27 Eagles 24.
2007-After 13 games the Eagles were 5-8 and won the final three for a .500 season. There were three defeats that should have been victories. No playoffs.
2008-After 11 games the Eagles were 5-5-1. They won four of the last five to finish at 9-6-1. They won two road playoff games, 27 to 14 at Minnesota and 23 to 11 at the Meadowlands. The NFC Conference loss at Arizona 32 to 25 was a bitter one.
2009-After nine games Philadelphia was 5-4. After that came six consecutive wins. There were three games the Eagles should have won but lost. This could have been a great year. Then came two losses to the Dallas Cowboys, both on the road. 24 to 0 on the final game of the season and 34 to 14 in the Wild Card Game.
2011-After 13 games the Eagles were 5-8 and won the final three for a .500 season. There were three defeats that should have been victories. No playoffs.
